The Most Important Message You Will Ever Hear
The Bible tells us who God is, what has gone wrong with mankind, what Jesus Christ has done for us, and how a sinner can receive eternal life. You do not need to clean yourself up before coming to Christ. You need to come to Him in repentance and faith.
Our Problem
We Have All Sinned
God is holy and righteous. Every one of us has broken God's law and fallen short of His glory. Sin is more than making mistakes. It is our rebellion against God in thought, word, and deed.
Romans 3:23 · KJV
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
No person can stand before God claiming to be righteous by his own goodness. Our greatest problem is not merely our circumstances. Our greatest problem is that our sin separates us from a holy God.
The Consequence
Sin Brings Death
Because God is just, sin has a consequence. Scripture tells us that the wages of sin is death. Yet that same verse immediately points us toward hope: God offers eternal life as a gift through Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23 · KJV
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
God's Love
God Gave His Son for Us
We could never rescue ourselves from sin, so God did for us what we could not do for ourselves. God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world.
John 3:16 · KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God's love is not merely something He said. He demonstrated His love toward sinners through the death of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8 · KJV
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
What Christ Did
Jesus Died for Our Sins and Rose Again
Jesus Christ lived without sin. He willingly went to the cross, died for our sins, was buried, and rose bodily from the dead on the third day. The resurrection is not an optional part of the Gospel. Christ is alive.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 · KJV
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
The Gospel is not advice about how to become a better person. It is the good news of what Jesus Christ has already accomplished.
A Free Gift
Salvation Cannot Be Earned
Salvation is entirely by God's grace. Good works, church attendance, baptism, giving, religious ceremonies, or trying to become a better person cannot purchase eternal life.
Ephesians 2:8-9 · KJV
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Good works have an important place in the Christian life, but they are the result of salvation—not the price of salvation. Jesus Christ has paid the price.
Your Response
Repent and Believe on Jesus Christ
Scripture calls sinners to repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance is a turning of the heart toward God, recognizing our sin and our need of Him. Faith rests in Jesus Christ rather than ourselves.
Acts 20:21 · KJV
“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Acts 16:31 · KJV
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Salvation is not found in trusting a prayer, a church, a preacher, a religious experience, or your own goodness. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ.
God's Promise
The Believer Has Everlasting Life
God does not tell the believer to spend the rest of life wondering whether Christ's promise is sufficient. Jesus promises everlasting life to the one who believes.
John 5:24 · KJV
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
Our assurance is not based upon the strength of our emotions on a particular day. It rests upon Jesus Christ and the truth of God's Word.
1 John 5:11-13 · KJV
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
YOUR RESPONSE TO THE GOSPEL
Will You Trust Jesus Christ?
If you recognize that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself, you can turn to God and place your faith in Jesus Christ—believing that He died for your sins and rose again.
You may express that faith to God in prayer, but remember: repeating certain words does not save you. Jesus Christ saves. Prayer is simply an opportunity to speak honestly to God about the faith and repentance of your heart.
A SIMPLE PRAYER OF FAITH
God, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose again. I turn to You and place my faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Thank You for Your grace and the gift of eternal life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
The prayer does not save you. Jesus Christ saves. Trust Him.
